How I work: six steps from first call to results

Every engagement follows the same discipline, scaled to the size of the job. You always know what's happening now and what comes next.

Six-step consulting process path

The six steps

  1. 1

    Understand

Conversations with owners and key users to learn how the business runs, what's hurting and what success looks like.

  2. 2

    Analyze

Map current processes, systems and data. Find where time, money and accuracy are being lost.

  3. 3

    Define

Write requirements, priorities and constraints that everyone signs off.

  4. 4

    Recommend

Compare options and present a practical recommendation with cost, timeline and risks.

  5. 5

    Implement

Plan the project, coordinate vendors, test with real scenarios, train users and manage go-live.

  6. 6

    Improve

Stabilise, measure against the original goals and tune the system as the business grows.

Questions clients ask

Do I have to commit to all six steps?

No. You can stop after any step with a useful deliverable in hand, such as a report, an SRS or a recommendation.

How do you charge?

Fixed fees for well-defined deliverables, and day rates or monthly retainers for ongoing advisory and project management. You get a written proposal before any work starts.
