Legacy software modernisation & migration

The old system still runs your business, but every change is risky. I plan a safe route to something supportable.

Old terminal computer migrating to a modern laptop

Problems I'm usually called in to solve

  • “Only one person understands it.”

Knowledge sits with a single developer or a vendor that no longer exists.

  • “It won't run on new machines.”

Old operating systems and databases block upgrades and security patches.

  • “We can't connect it to anything.”

No APIs, so e-invoicing, apps and dashboards are out of reach.

  • “We're afraid to switch it off.”

Years of data and hidden rules live inside it.

Benefits of consulting with me

  • A fact-based decision

Keep, wrap, re-platform or replace, chosen from an assessment, not a hunch.

  • Business rules captured

Hidden logic documented before it's lost.

  • Data carried forward

History migrated or archived so reporting continues.

  • Low-drama cut-over

Parallel runs and phased switch-over protect operations.

Questions clients ask

Should we replace or modernise our legacy system?

Replace when a packaged product fits most of your process; modernise or wrap when the system holds unique logic that works well. The assessment compares cost, risk and timeline for each path.

Can old data be moved into a new system?

Usually yes, after cleansing and mapping. Very old history is often archived in a read-only database instead of migrated.
